History
A Century on
Coit and Sweet
The story of Petersen Plumbing Inc. is woven into the very neighborhood it serves. In 1919, our family’s journey began with John L. Petersen and George Segard, two masters of their craft who understood that plumbing is more than just pipes and fixtures—it’s the basic comfort that every family relies on.
By 1922, John L. and George had established the shop at 1610 Coit Ave. N.E., right on the corner of Coit and Sweet St. Though George moved on by 1933, the Petersen name remained on the door, and the shop has been in that very same spot ever since.
From those early days building a fleet of trucks to serve the City of Grand Rapids to the specialized, generational knowledge we share today, our mission hasn't wavered. For over a century, our family has taken pride in keeping the taps running and the homes of West Michigan comfortable.
Today, that shop continues with Tom and Ray. Whether we’re restoring a historic fixture or helping a neighbor find just the right part, we do it with the same integrity and "deep knowledge" passed down from the very beginning.
